Useful Gardening Hacks
Do you lack a green thumb, but you want to have a well-kept garden? If that is the case, then you will probably need some gardening hacks to help you maintain a beautiful and healthy garden. And in that case, I really hope this article will help you reach your goal at having a perfect garden.
So here are some hacks and tips on keeping a healthy garden.
First of all, you will want to clear your garden from pests and insects, because if you have any of them, no matter how hard you work on your garden, they will always be there to destroy your progress. For that purpose, you are going to need about 1 ½ tblsp of liquid soap, water and maybe some essential oil. Mix the ingredients in a spray bottle and use it on your infected plants. The essential oil can be any kind that has but repellent properties, but it is not necessary, you will need about 10-15 drops of it.
Another thing you can use as a bug repellent is coffee grounds – it is an abrasive and acidic and will keep away snails and slugs. Plus the nitrogen in it will help your plants convert the sunlight into energy.
If you do not want to spend money on a store bough fertilizer, you can make one on your own. It will be cheap, efficient and natural. What you can do is crush some eggshells instead of throwing them away, and then sprinkle them around your plants. Eggshells make a fantastic natural fertilizer, and will give a calcium boost to your plants.
And here is another great tip, if you want to save some money – collect rain water. Simply put a big barrel in your garden to collect the rain water. Later on you can use that water to water your plants. It is very simple and will help you have a normal water bill.
Or you if you are too forgetful and keep forgetting to water your plants, you can make yourself a home-made little drip water irrigation system for your plants. And there are a couple of ways to do that.
One of the things that you can do is, get a plastic bottle and a sock. Make holes in the bottle then put it in the sock. And bury it near your plants. Fill the bottle with water, and the sock will absorb it and distribute it to the plants slowly, when they need it. Then all you have to do is fill the bottle once in a while, instead of watering them every day.
Or roll up paper towels and put them by your potted plants, or your plants in the garden. Put the one end of the rolled up paper towels in a glass of water, and this will act as a small irrigation system. The paper towels will soak up the water from the glass and distribute it to the plants, watering them without your help.
And here is another very important and helpful hack provided by Gardeners London ! Make your own compost! I know there is a wide variety of composts in stores, natural and eco-friendly, etc. But nothing will ever replace the good old DIY compost. For this hack, all you are going to need is your waste organic kitchen matter – everything from eggshells, tomato peels, cucumbers, fruit peels, or just fallen leaves from your garden – can be turned into a garden compost. Gather everything you can find and allow it a few days to disintegrate. Then mix it with some of your soil, and you are good to go. You have an all-natural compost to even enrich your plants, and nothing will beat that.
And last, but not least, plant smart! Did you know that plants help each other grow? Well, they do. Do a little research on which plants grow better and stronger when they are near other plants (find their companions) and plant them next to each other, for example strawberries will grow up to be much tastier, if they grow near thyme, etc, etc.
You can use these hacks not only for your produce garden, but for your flowers as well.
And there you have it. Five simple hack to grow a beautiful, healthy and delicious garden. Good luck!
